Prevention, Education and Outreach
FHP offers Prevention, Education and Outreach (PE&O) program. The PE&O program supplies the tools to improve and maintain a good quality of life.
- Prevention: This part of the program gives members the chance to keep their current good health. It also helps to improve a person’s quality of life before a mental illness limits or decreases it. Examples of these include the following programs:
- preventive mental health programs
- preventive counseling
- teaching materials
- life skills classes
- drop in centers
- support groups
- Education: This part of the program provides a way for members to gain knowledge. It helps members to understand the resources that are on hand. It helps them to see the tools to maintain and improve wellness. Examples of these activities include:
- programs which provide facts about benefits
- targeted mental health teaching for members and/or family members
- training and technical help
- other information that increases general mental health knowledge
- Outreach: This part of the program allows Florida Health Partners, Inc. (FHP), to relate to members. FHP does this through forums, newsletters, teaching materials and training. FHP also holds empowerment events and meetings in the community. These activities are most often for teaching. But, they can also involve requests for input from members, family and stakeholders. FHP wants members to be part of the program's design and process. Outreach plans may be for a general group of people. They may also be for a specific group of people. One example could be programs for high-risk groups. They may take place in specific places that members visit. These can include social service agencies and schools. They can also include community centers, or health fairs.
