Seminole Community Mental Health Center, Inc. (SCMHC) was founded in 1969 by a group of local residents. Initially employing 3 and functioning out of a small store-front office, SCMHC now employs 130 and provides needed services from both our Fern Park facility and our campus in Sanford.
SCMHC not only strives to improve the quality of life for the chronically and persistently mentally ill of our community, but provides much needed support for clients and family-members alike. With more than 25 programs, SCMHC is able to develop clinically sound treatment plans tailored to each individual client. These plans are not only designed to meet the medical/psychiatric needs of each client through traditional methods including medication management and group counseling, but take personal goals and objectives into account whether the objective is employment, independent living, or any of the other personal goals that many of us take for granted.
SCMHC is uniquely equipped to provide these services to our clients. SCMHC works collaboratively with government agencies and local community resources to meet the specific needs of our clients and community. We serve any individual who presents for treatment regardless of their ability to pay and pride ourselves on maintaining an open and accessible facility in which those affected by mental illness, substance abuse or physical/sexual/emotional abuse can comfortably and confidentially receive assistance.
In recent years, SCMHC has creatively addressed the needs of the community. Our partnership with local law enforcement has resulted in the provision of treatment services to those involved in the court system who would otherwise be incarcerated but whose criminal behavior is rooted in mental illness or substance abuse. SCMHC actively participates in the local Drug Court Program, thus furthering the recovery efforts of many community residents. Our Supported Employment program, working with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, has experienced unprecedented success resulting in a majority of program participants securing and retaining gainful employment, further reducing the strain on other community services.
- Mission
- Our goal is to provide comprehensive, biopsychosocial rehabilitation programming in the areas of mental health and substance abuse.
